National Parks

National parks are protected areas in which the natural environment is preserved in its unaltered state. National parks protect unique ecosystems, biodiversity and landscapes. National parks feature a diversified ecology that includes snow-capped mountains, tropical rainforests, very hot to freezing cold deserts, lush plains, and steep valleys.

As per Wildlife Institute of India, There are now 106 national parks in India, spanning an area of 44,372.42 km2, or 1.35% of the country’s geographical area (National Wildlife Database, May. 2022).

National parks vary greatly in size and purpose. Some are small areas of land, while others are much larger. Many national parks have visitor centers and other amenities for visitors. National parks can protect rare species, like tigers or lions, or they can preserve important historical sites. National parks can also be important places for people to learn about their environment and get involved with conservation efforts. All national parks are protected by law and cannot be changed without permission from the government.
